U.s. Vet. Lic. No.

Active Ingredient(s)

The vaccine consists of two components: A freeze-dried distemper vaccine consisting of modified live canine distemper virus (Distemink) and a liquid inactivated vaccine consisting of MEV types 1 and 2, Cl. botulinum type C, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa serotypes 5, 6, and 7-8 (IATS). The liquid is used to dissolve the Distemink®.

Preservatives: Gentamicin and thimerosal.

Biocom-DP Indications

BIOCOM®-DP is for use as an aid in the prevention of distemper, viral enteritis, botulism and Pseudomonas pneumonia in healthy, susceptible mink.

Biocom-DP Dosage And Administration

Mixing of the Vaccines:

1. Do not mix the vaccines until ready to use.

2. Mix only one pair of vials at a time, and use the entire contents within two (2) hours.

3. Disinfect rubber stoppers with alcohol.

4. Using a sterile transfer needle, transfer the Biocom®-P into the bottle of Distemink®.

5. To do this, shake the Biocom®-P to obtain a uniform suspension. Insert the short end of the double-pointed transfer needle into the Biocom®-P and turn the bottle upside down; then, insert the other end of the transfer needle into the Distemink. The Biocom®-P will be drawn into the Distemink® bottle by vacuum.

6. After all the Biocom®-P has been transferred, shake gently to suspend evenly.

7. Do not transfer the vaccine to other containers.

Use sharp, sterile needles and sterile syringes. Inject 1 mL under the loose skin of the armpit of min ofk at least 10 weeks of age. For a proper suspension, shake before and occasionally during use. Revaccinate all adults at the time of kit vaccination.

Keep a record of brand name, quantity, serial number, expiration date, and place of purchase. Record the date of vaccination, the number, age and location of the mink.

Precaution(s)

Store at 35-45°F (2-7°C).

Biocom-DP Caution(s)

Consult a veterinarian or United Vaccines Inc. for an alternate vaccinating schedule and before using the vaccine on a farm where disease exists or has occurred in the last 18 months or where earlier botulism protection is desired.

1. Burn the empty containers and any unused portion of the vaccine.

2. Syringes and reusable, stainless steel needles may be sterilized by boiling them in distilled water for 15 to 20 minutes. Do not disinfect them with chemicals as these can destroy the vaccine.

3. Incubating diseases (such as Aleutian disease), parasites, nutritional deficiencies (anemia), maternal antibodies and poor management practices (dehydration, adverse temperatures) will reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine.

4. If shock occurs after vaccination, use atropine sulfate or epinephrine.

5. Should disease occur in an unvaccinated herd, the losses may be minimized by promptly vaccinating those animals which are not showing signs of the disease. The best procedure is to first vaccinate the mink located the farthest distance from those showing symptoms. Care should be taken to use a sterile needle for each animal and to disinfect handling gloves as often as is practical. Consult a veterinarian regarding the treatment and handling of sick animals.

6. Animals infected, yet not showing signs of disease at the time of vaccination, will not be protected by the vaccine. Symptoms of the disease may continue to develop for as long as two months after vaccination.
